Firm and Tighten Your Skin with Peptides

Peptides are simply amino acid chains (building blocks of proteins). The primary function of them in products is to help firm or tighten the skin. However, just one ingredient can’t do everything the skin needs for repair. Peptides are not antioxidants nor do they provide exfoliation, brightening or maximum collagen protection and stimulation. Therefore, if a patient wants to use peptides, they need to be used in conjunction with other ingredients that prevent, correct, exfoliate, brighten and protect.

Some of the most innovative peptides are neuropeptides (which claim to relax facial muscles, therefore reducing the appearance of wrinkles, similar to BOTOX). The most popular is called Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 or Argireline. This is the ingredient that is typically used in products that claim to be “topical Botox” “Botox alternative” “dermal relaxers” as they will temporarily reduce the function/expression of the skin to which they are applied. If this particular peptide is used long-term, a patient could see a cumulative effect of less wrinkles when smiling, etc. However, this is a topical, cosmetic effect only that does not improve skin health and will go away once the product is discontinued.

You can find peptides in:

AGE Eye Complex (dipeptide-2, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, palmitoyl oligopeptide)

Eye Cream (dipeptide-2, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7)

Metacell Renewal B3 (tri-peptide)

Body Tightening Complex (tri-peptide)

Redness Neutralizer (palmitoyl tripeptide-8)

AOX Lip Repair (palmitoyl oligopeptide)

As you can see, peptides are a nice addition to a well-rounded skin care regimen that includes an antioxidant, sunscreen, retinols and other corrective products but can’t, on their own, provide maximum correction.
